YouTube test

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

I’m working on a new site design for the blog and I need to adjust the widths of the columns in the new design. This may impact the YouTube posts that I’ve made, since the videos are embedded at a fixed size of 425×350.

So I need to test some new sizes for posting the videos. Here’s the first test at 391×322. Ben Lee’s "Catch My Disease."

Take Back the Night

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Sharyl and I went to the Take Back the Night rally here in Baton Rouge Sunday night. Unfortunately, the weather was awful. But we had a good rally despite the wind and rain.

Sharyl took part by giving a brief reading and lighting one of ten candles to commemorate women who were victims of violence. A few brave women told their personal stories and the mayor said a few words.

And then, leaving the candles behind (they wouldn’t stay lit), we marched. I carried a sign made by kids who were staying at the Battered Women’s Shelter. They had put their handprints on the sign beneath the words “Hands are not for hitting.”

Did we march more than a mile, or am I that out of shape? I was marching right behind the mayor and he set a very quick pace. Next election, I’ll be voting for someone in worse shape than me.

If you miss Coca-Cola’s possibly racist, yet very funny German web site Fanta Shokata, you will appreciate this. If not, you might be a little freaked out.

Geraldo at Large

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

I was just watching Geraldo at Large (waiting for The Simpson’s to begin, I swear) and I can’t believe what he just said.

He had a brief segment at the end of the show called “Iraq: Fish or Cut Bait.” He talked about the increase in violence there recently. 60 bodies were found in Baghdad yesterday. 15 people were killed in an explosion. He concluded by saying that although he still supports the President, it’s time for the Iraqi people to have a vote on whether or not they want US troops to withdraw from Iraq.

Could this be a trial balloon? Geraldo is a Fox News employee, after all. Is he testing the waters for an Iraqi vote on a US pullout as a new political strategy?

Maybe, maybe not. But if the White House is looking for a way out of Iraq, letting the citizens of a foreign country set our military and foreign policy agenda would be an awful attempt at preventing their strategy from being labeled “cut and run.”
