Low Fat Post
Check out Britain’s proposed “front of pack” nutrition labels. They’re designed to give consumers basic info about the product right on the front of the box. The traffic light colors provide helpful context for folks like me, who can’t remember if 2.0g of salt is a lot or a little.
I think the recent bans on trans fat are an example of government overreaching. If Krispy Kreme wants to use saturated fats to produce a donut with a longer shelf life, they should be able to. Let me decide if eating the donut is a good idea.
But I would love to see these British nutrition labels implemented here in the U.S. Providing consumers with this type of information wouldn’t place any extra burden on food suppliers. (Food labels are already required; just not in an easily decipherable format.) And consumers would be able to make better choices about what they eat. But I’m sure the food lobby won’t allow this to happen.
