Today the house voted 218 - 212 to approve a supplemental spending bill that sets benchmarks for progress in Iraq and would require the withdrawal of American combat forces from Iraq by August 2008. As expected, President Bush promised to veto the bill if it makes it to him in its current form.

One notable lawmaker who opposes the bill is Texas Republican Ron Paul. He has released this memo which explains his unique position on this issue.
