Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte

On Tuesday, I skipped the marketing keynote to visit the Art Institute. The museum has an amazing collection with Seurat (above), Picasso, Renoir, Cézanne, Manet, Monet, Matisse, and Van Gogh.

The also had a great furniture collection including this desk designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, which I need. Wikipedia has a small gallery, here.

Ariel Shamir, the creator of an image resizing technique called seam carving, spoke at the Adobe Max “Sneak Peeks” session last night. When he demonstrated his creation, the crowd pretty much went nuts. There might have even been some fist pumping. Check it out.

Crown Fountain

This is Crown Fountain in Millennium Park. The fountain is a very shallow reflecting pool with two large LED screen sculptures at either end. The LED towers display natural images as well as the recorded faces of 1000 Chicago residents. Periodically, the faces on the towers will open their mouths and water will stream from a hole in the tower.

I was there last night a little after dark and there were many people there, enjoying the fountains. And many kids getting wet.

Here are my pics of the fountain.
